Please join me Thursday November 5, 2009, 530-730pm for the opening reception of ‘Garrett: The Boy Beneath the bandages.’ This documentary photo essay, accompanied by two multimedia videos, explores 1.5 years in the life of a 12 year old boy and his family as they struggle daily with a rare genetic skin disorder, Epidermolysis Bullosa, or, EB.
Children born with this rare genetic skin disorder lack the ability to produce the Collagen-7 protein that anchors the inner and outer layers of skin together. The slightest friction or bump causes painful blistering and break down of the skin.
30 copies of ‘Garrett: The Boy Beneath The Bandages’ a 40 page photo book containing 70 images documenting Garrett’s life over the last 1.5 years, has been donated by Blurb and will be for sale at the Gallery. After these 30 are sold at the gallery, the books will be only available online. So make sure to get one while you’re there. Proceeds from the gallery sales of the books will be donated to Garrett and his family.
Garrett and his family will also be attending the Gallery opening.
I really hope to see you all there. Please come out and help me raise awareness for this rare disease in the public eye by attending. And show your support for documentary photography.
The show will run from October 31, 2009 thru November 30, 2009.
